Three congressmen demand answers of Cold War ‘chemical spraying’.
The deepest secrets of the U.S military will probably never be answered, but that hasn’t stopped three congressmen from trying.
Rumors have been rife about ‘chemical spraying’, civilians being poisoned and even injected with chemicals during the cold war, claims which have always been debunked by the government, until now.
Congressmen William Lacy Clay of Missouri, Brad Sherman of California and Jim Cooper of Tennessee are all taking action against the U.S government to get real answers about these allegations.
The allegations were exposed in the book “Behind the Fog: How the US Cold War Radiological Weapons Program Exposed Innocent Americans” by professor Lisa Martino-Taylor.
She says that she began researching the topic for her dissertation, and interviewed and carried out tests on the people of St. Louis who were thought to be among the test subjects.
Martino-Taylor spoke of her project, saying:
“Many people from St. Louis and around the world were interested and concerned about the covert military studies that were the subject of my research,”
“Now, five years later, I continue to receive inquiries. Behind the Fog is the result of five years of additional research that presents new findings, greater context, and additional evidence as to how the US military exposed vulnerable populations to radiation and other harmful chemicals during covert testing to develop radiological weapons.”
She says that she has used the Freedom of Information Act in order to gain previously hidden information, and found that during the cold war, there was a group of people who“worked to develop radiological weapons and later ‘combination weapons’ using radioactive materials along with chemical or biological weapons.”
Martino-Taylor says that she uncovered man uncomfortable facts about the alleged poisonings which had been covered up for decades.
“They targeted the most vulnerable in society in most cases,”
“They targeted children. They targeted pregnant women in Nashville. People who were ill in hospitals. They targeted wards of the state. And they targeted minority populations.”
Because of the considerable attention that Martino-Taylor’s book received, the congressmen have now decided to demand answers.
Congressman Cooper’s office stated:
“We are asking for details on the Pentagon’s role, along with any cooperation by research institutions and other organizations. These revelations are shocking, disturbing and painful,”
The U.S government likely holds many secrets, but this is one of the first cases of them using biological warfare against their own citizens.
