Trump in favor of GMO’s – CONFIRMED.
Donald Trump’s stance on all things natural has been a cause of speculation as the nation tried to work out exactly where he stands on a number of environmental issues.
Fears were realized in May last year when President Trump pulled out of the Paris agreement, highlighting his lack of awareness, or even a total lack of regard for global warming and the pollution problems that are dogging the world.
As a shrewd businessman however, his decision was backed up with the premise that he made the decision to somehow help to U.S economy. One can understand the reasoning despite the morals being somewhat questionable.
But now Trump’s stance on GMO’s has been confirmed, after he acknowledged the word ‘biothecnology’ for the first time during his Presidency, confirming that he at least has got to grips with the agrochemical world and is operating with it on some level.
Before his acknowledgement of the industry, many were uncertain of his stance on the industry, and if he was aware of the importance of it in the context of the planet.
The MIT Technology Review have reported that Trump said:
“We are streamlining regulations that have blocked cutting-edge biotechnology, setting free our farmers to innovate, thrive, and to grow,”
“Oh, are you happy you voted for me. You are so lucky that I gave you that privilege,”
Although it may come as not such a surprise that Trump does not hold environmental issues close to his heart it is still a blow to have suspicions confirmed. While he was president, Obama worked hard to change the laws surrounding GMO’s, he even brought in the bill which stated that companies had to disclaim whether their products contained genetically modified ingredients, giving some of the power back to the people in being able to have better control over their food choices.
But it seems that instead of working to help the world get away from GMO’s, Trump wants to work with the companies to help them in their quest to ramp up GMO’s in food. Trump has also scrapped a law which was introduced to tightly regulate GMO’s, he got rid of the USDA rule which meant that plants made using the gene-editing tool CRISPR are not regulated as scrupulously.
Many people are wary of GMO’s and if possible, want to see a world where natural still rules.
