Humpback whale shows off its human side in amazing video.
The link between humans and animals is complicated and of varying degrees.
On the one hand we have violence from humans towards animals, cases of animal cruelty are seen all the time, and many people still think it is perfectly acceptable to hunt animals, not for food but for sheer sport and enjoyment.
At the other end of the scale we have people who dedicate their entire lives to the study and understanding of the animal kingdom, Nan Hauser is one of these people.
Her career has been dedicated to the study of whales and her research has given us some amazing results, no less, this latest video of a humpback whale protecting her from the attack of a tiger shark.
Many people claim that animas are unable of understanding human emotions, but perhaps all they lack is the ability to communicate their thoughts. This amazing video clearly shows the whale protecting her, which shows the ability of the whale to experience several complicated emotions.
The knowledge that the shark is of danger to the human, the desire to protect her and the ability to put these thoughts into action.
The footage was captured in Rarotonga, in the Cook Islands by one of Hauser’s friends who was documenting her interaction with the whales.
It was only upon watching the footage back when Hauser says that she realized what had happened.
“I’ve spent the past 28 years protecting whales, and in the moment, I didn’t even realise that they were protecting me.”
“I wasn’t sure what the whale was up to when he approached me, and it didn’t stop pushing me around for over 10 minutes. It seemed like hours. I was a bit bruised up,” she said. “I’ve spent 28 years underwater with whales, and have never had a whale so tactile and so insistent on putting me on his head, or belly, or back, or, most of all, trying to tuck me under his huge pectoral fin.”
“I didn’t want to panic, because I knew that he would pick up on my fear,”
“I stayed calm to a point but was sure that it was most likely going to be a deadly encounter.”
Could it be that these amazing creatures can sense the good nature of Hauser and worked to protect her because of her good work in protecting them.
