This tiny home is one of the most inventive we have seen!
Tiny homes are growing in popularity, once seen as a kooky alternative way of living, all kinds of people are now looking to live in these sustainable homes, for a fraction of the price of a ‘normal’ house.
On thing that most tiny homes have in common is that they have a focus on sustainable living and recycling of materials. While many tiny homes have this ethos at the heart of their design, this home has taken it to a whole new level – it is completely made from recycled pallets and lumber.
Wooden pallets are used in a variety of different situations, and most businesses rely on them for receiving goods, this means there is a lot of them around. Sadly, they mostly et chopped up and used for firewood but this house is a great example of how they can be used to create something amazing.
This example of a tiny home is the brainchild of Kevin Bentley, and his pictures document the building of his home step by step. The 12×12 hut is made from a frame of wooden pallets, and he has documented every step in picture form to show others just how easy it was to build.
The accompanying video gives a more in depth look at the way the house was built and highlights the simplicity of the structure.
Tiny homes are increasingly popular for young people who are finding it impossible to get a foot on the property ladder in the current economic climate. The tiny home is a perfect solution to this problem, not only are they cheap to build, they are also incredibly cheap to run.
Tiny homes fitted with wood burners to heat do not have to rely on gas mains, and generators are frequently used to produce electricity. This means that a tiny home can be run completely free of any monthly bills and using only materials provided by nature.
Kevin even states how his house was completely FREE to build as he got the pallets for nothing, many places give them away so keep an eye out if you are looking to build a home similar to Kevin’s.
The natural feel that wood gives is of no comparison to other ‘new build’ homes that are usually made from very cheap materials and very little thought or love goes into these projects.
